ADVANCEMENT

Youth Advancement Chairperson: Dave Nilson

District Dinner Chairpersons: Ruth Belcher & Valerie Gillespie

From Tiger Cub to Eagle Scout, advancement is an integral part of the Scouting program. It allows boys to learn, grow and succeed in life.  Scout advancements were carefully created in order to help young men become self-sufficient, confident and skilled in many areas. For example, when a Wolf Cub Scout helps his mother cook, it begins to prepare him to later take leadership skills and responsibility when he cooks with his Boy Scout patrol. When a Tiger Cub participates in a food drive for the homeless with his den, he is learning to become a compassionate, giving person later in life. There's a purpose for everything we do.

In Thunderbird District, we want every leader to feel comfortable with advancement. When you have a better understanding of Scout advancements, you're able to deliver a better quality program to the kids in our community!

We hope this page provides all the resources you may need. If you have any questions about advancement, please contact Dave Nilson, Thunderbird District Youth Advancement Chairperson.

LET'S LEARN ABOUT MERIT BADGES

There are many merit badges. Some are required for rank, but most are electives (your son can choose what he's interested in). Here's a great merit badge summary and list from meritbadge.org: Merit Badges in a Nutshell

THE IMPORTANCE OF EAGLE SCOUT

Earning Eagle Scout is one of the most important things your son will do in his life. When he becomes an Eagle Scout, it tells others - universities, the military, employers, friends, family - that your son has integrity, character and the highest quality leadership skills. This will take him very far in life. However, the Eagle Scout Rank is not easy to achieve; it takes self-discipline and perserverance. In fact, only 5 percent of boys in Scouting are able to achieve Eagle Scout. To learn more about the importance of the Eagle Scout Rank, please click here: Eagle Scout

Here is a list of famous Eagle Scouts
