The Governor's Serve to Preserve Scout Award Minimize

On behalf of Governor Charlie Crist, we are requesting your partnership in an exciting new program for Boy Scouts. This program will allow all troops to participate in engaging and educational activities about Florida’s natural environment, and earn recognition through a new awards patch.

Details of the program, developed with the leaders from the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts here in Florida, is included in a link on the bottom of the window. The program supports Governor Crist’s Serve to Preserve environmental initiative, aimed at engaging all citizens in protecting our state for generations to come.

Serve to Preserve deepens exponentially with the participation of young people. This new outreach will engender a sense of stewardship for our utopian environment among the leaders of tomorrow, and will create an effective way for young people to share new ideas and approaches to the protection of natural Florida.

This new scout program will also be a highlight of the upcoming Serve to Preserve summit hosted by Governor Crist this summer. Many Scouts will be invited to that summit and it is our hope much of the work of your troop members over the next few months will be highlighted.

The requirements for both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts are listed here. After completion of the award, simply prepare a list of names of Scouts and enclose $4 for each patch requested. Please mail to: South Florida Council, 15255 NW 82 Avenue, Miami Lakes, FL 33016

Site Development at Camp Seminole Minimize

DOWNRITE ENGINEERING! Downrite is one of our community’s premier land development companies and outstanding corporate citizens. I would also like to thank Downrite’s Owners Sam and Joey LoBue for graciously agreeing to donate their company’s resources to make Camp Seminole operational again.I would like to thank Gary Landmesser for approaching Downrite to assist with this massive clean-up effort.

Dear Fellow Scouters:

I am pleased to share with you the most recent aerial photographs taken at Camp Seminole. As you can see the land clearing, roads and building pads are progressing steadily as we begin the important rebuilding process. These are very important and exciting times for our local Scouting program and we need every ones “Can do Attitude” to make our dreams a reality. We have adopted a theme in 2008 entitled “One Mission, One Vision and One Movement” and I know together we can accomplish great things.

We have launched an aggressive Capital Development Campaign called Mission Possible to raise the needed funds to rebuild both Camp Seminole and Camp Sawyer. You may be pleased to know, we have already received several lead gifts from generous community donors and the South Florida Council has also made a significant investment of more than $5-million to begin construction. Our objective is to make Camp Seminole and Camp Sawyer the finest Camping facilities in the BSA.

Thank you for all that you do to support Scouting. I am confident with your leadership we can achieve all of our objectives in 2008. It’s going to be an exciting year for our Scouts and for our local Scouting movement! Please feel free to distribute the attached photo’s to your appropriate contacts.

Camp Seminole after Hurricane Wilma

As you can see in the photos, the majority of the trees fell to the ground and others were killed by the wind force of the storm. In addition, with the uprooting of the trees, the majority of the underground utlities were also destroyed.
